What will I learn about effective writing?
Effective writing is a superpower. It can alter beliefs, challenge perceptions and connect communities. But when it’s not done well, it can confuse, alienate and bore.
Writing is practical skill that can be learned and ‘how to write effectively’ has been designed with that in mind. This course combines proven insights from writing masters like Stephen King, Sam Leith and George Orwell but with a modern spin of how to effectively use Artificial Intelligence to write faster and better without sounding like a robot.
You will learn:
- The core principles of writing well.
- How to adapt your writing for emerging digital platforms.
- How to best use LLM (Large Language Models) and what pitfalls to avoid.
Throughout the 5 week course you will be provided with a (non-judgmental!) space to practice what you learn in order to supercharge your skills. Giving you immediate practical knowhow to take home and boost your confidence to make changes in your professional life.
About your course leader: Alex Wilson
“I work with individuals and companies to help them define their brand, and then work with them to tell their story to the world (with all the maddening complexity that involves in our modern media environment).
On a practical level, that can mean anything from selling-in stories to a newspaper to making sure they’re prepped for a podcast interview to ghostwriting their online life on LinkedIn.
I really enjoy designing and running training programs. I previously co-ran the High Flyers PR Course – over 200 PR professionals trained!”

Alex is a copywriter and communications strategist with over a decades worth of experience. During his career, Alex has ghostwritten for entertainers, sportspeople, corporate executives and governments. He’s also worked on communications projects for some of the biggest brands and companies in the world like Adidas, General Electric, Innocent, Molson Coors, Natwest, P&G, Puma and Tinder. Alex’s writing has been published in titles including The Guardian, The Times, Foreign Policy and McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.
Alex is so committed to experimenting with the power of words that he once did a stand-up comedy set in Mandarin Chinese (it’s unclear whether the audience was laughing with or at him). He has a BA in English Literature & Linguistics from the University of Manchester, some of which he still remembers.
